Welcome to the ABSLSC Youth Page
Youth are our clubs U14 – U19 members. This page is your one stop shop for anything ‘Youth’ at Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
For any Youth queries, please don’t hesitate to contact the Youth Development Coordinator.
April 2024 Update
The last 6 weeks have been frantic with numerous state titles events occurring on the surf life saving calendar. The club youth competed in the State Titles for Champion Lifesaver and the State Titles for Seniors (Beach / Water events).
Special mention to Tan/Alex U17 2x1k Silver Medal and Grace U14 composite 2x1k Gold Medal.
The following of the clubs youth received nominations for the Onkaparinga Council Youth Awards for ‘contributions to community’: Tan T; Alex G; Jane W; Grace E; Agatha B-N; Evie S; Blake R; Aldo S. These youth all volunteer their time patrolling for the club, but over and above this, they also assist the nipper program as AGA’s / AGM’s.
February came and went quickly and 5 of our Youth members trained and completed their Bronze Medallion. Congratulations to Charlotte A, Bianca A, Jane W, Harper R & Gem L. This group are all now moving forwards to their IRB Crew Certificate. We also held our yearly Mile Swim and our Senior Club Champs in February. Congratulations to 2 of our club youth who came in 1st (Tan) and 2nd (Alex) in the Mile Swim, and congratulations to our U15 club champs Grace E & Aldo S, our U17 club champ Alex G, and our U19 club champ Trea P.
Looking forwards, Surf Life Saving SA are hosting their U14/15 camp in the April school holidays. Congratulations to those whose nominations were accepted by the state for attending this camp: Aldo S, Grace E, Tahlia H and Evie S. Congratulations, you will have a fantastic time. The aim of the Youth Development Camp is to allow our youth to explore the different pathways open to them as they transition to senior patrolling members. They will develop both personally as well as their life saving skills, leadership and teamwork.
Now that the Summer season has completed, we look forward to the surf life saving winter competitions that commence in May which include Pool Rescue Competition and IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boats) Racing which our Youth also get involved in.
Always exiting times and activities going on at the club for our Youth members.

January 2024 Update
It’s hard to believe we are half way through the Summer season already! Surf Sport discipline training is in full swing as we work towards State Titles in March. Our youth have completed in a few water carnivals already, and finished the year with the 8@8 Xmas edition board and ski race. SRC training is finished and our youth who have completed this have now started patrolling, those youth who are old enough are now working towards their Bronze Medallion.

November 2023 Update
The season officially started in October, and our Youth have already been busy! Some working towards their Surf Rescue Certificate, whilst others are working towards their Bronze Medallion. Many of our youth have hit the beach (and pool!) assisting the nipper program by being Age Group Managers, Age Group Assistants and general Water Cover. Once the Bronze Medallion is completed, we will be moving onto the IRB Crew training! We also have a couple undertaking their Foundation Coaching Course.
Pre season training has come to an end for the 23-24 summer competition. So all our Youth competitors have been training hard in their respective surf sport disciplines. A handful of our Youth have already hit the competition scene, competing at the SA Kozii Enduro in Swim, Board and Ski, and the Board Riding (Surfing) State Titles

Transition from Nippers to Youth
The Youth Transition document has been put together to assist you with this transition process from a nipper member to a Youth/Senior member of the club. Designed for U14/15 members, but information within the document is relevant to all Youth Members.

Surf Sports Training
Weekly Senior Training program posted on the club private facebook page and emailed to all members weekly. All Youth members are invited to attend these sessions. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to, as our coaches will teach you. It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to compete, it is an awesome way to keep fit. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have craft, the club has some you can borrow. Can’t make every session? That is ok to! From beginners, to casual to high performance, all are welcome 😊
Training Expression of Interest
Aldinga Bay SLSC holds numerous types of training inhouse, but there are also opportunities that arise at other clubs and within the State. These opportunities can be best managed if we understand what types of training our youth membership would like to undertake. Completion of this form does not mean that the specific training will be offered at our club, some training must be undertaken by State or other RTOs. If interested please email Trainer@Aldingabayslsc.onmicrosoft.com for more informaiton.
Want to know more about the club? Aldinga Bay SLSC Induction program
If you would like to know more about the Aldinga Bay SLSC, please undertake the Aldinga Bay SLSC – Yearly Induction for active members current Season. Induction is the process of both welcoming new members and ensuring current members are aware of any changes that may have occurred both within Surf Life Saving Australia; Surf Life Saving South Australia; and Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club over the last 12 months. In relation to our club, patrolling and child safe requirements.
Patrolling with Aldinga Bay SLSC
The 25-26 patrol season is from Saturday 11th October 2025. The patrol calendar is posted on the private ABSLSC Patrol facebook page. If you are a patrolling youth member that does NOT have access to this page, please let me know so I can coordinate another way for you to receive your patrolling updates.

Youth – want to get more involved at ABSLSC?
Please see the Surf Life Saving SA website Youth page for the Youth initiatives for this season.
SLSSA are also looking for assistance for chaperones etc for some of the camps/activities. If any adults would like to assist with this, there is also info on this page too.
FIND YOUR PATHWAY
Not only are there personal and volunteer pathways, but there are career pathways. This will continually be updated, but VACSWIM swim instructors / assistant instructors can be employed by SLSSA once you are 15 years of age (13 to 15 years you are able to apply for a volunteer role). There has been a massive change in this area, as SLSSA now runs VacSwim nationally (at pools also). For anyone applying for an instructor position, they are accepting 1 year term of current Age Group Manager as a relevant qualification to teach vacswim at the beach (not pool).
If you have any questions or queries in the first instance, please don’t hesitate to contact me! There is also a contact on this web page for the SLSSA Youth Coordinator, Henry, however, I encourage you to contact me in the first instance and I can follow up with State if needed, or you can use the generic SLSSA development email which will be responded to by the Development officer Henry Street.
Don’t forget that we also have the following available for youth:
- Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 5.45-7am sessions Lap Swimming Seaford Pool
- Surf Award Training (eg. SRC; Bronze; IRB Crew etc)
- Discipline specific training (do you want to compete? water events, beach events, IRBs, Boats, Pool Comp) – let me know and I can point you in the right direction!
- U14/15 Youth invited to hit the beach alongside the Nippers on Saturdays during the summer (1.30 – 4.30/5ish for Youth). This can be part of the pathways for that age group, or they can get in some extra training with the U13s. Age Group Assistant, water cover, assisting activities etc. If you are interested, let me know 🙂
- Weekly Senior Training program posted on the club private facebook page and emailed to all members weekly.
I am happy to meet with the Youth and Parent/Guardians individually to put together a bit of a pathway plan for any youth within the club based on what they are interested in doing 🙂 If you wish to organise a time for this, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
In relation to the youth (U14 – U18) program for the club in the 2025-26 season, any feedback is welcome in relation to what the youth of the club would be interested in doing.
On top of the skills side, will also be organising some social activities for the youth of the club. SLSSA are also going to be running some state wide training and social initiatives for U14/15s this season.
Any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Look forward to seeing you all on the beach!!!
